GENERAL COUNCIL OF COURTS

The General Council of Courts does not exercise adjudication. Its duty is solely to provide  conditions to ensure judicial independence and impartiality  of judges. The Council consists of 14 members and members are two members appointed by the State Ikh Khural /Parliament/ and the President, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, a Government member  in charge of legal affairs, General Prosecutor, 8 judges representing courts of all levels and elected by the General Council of Courts, and one  judge from the City Appellate Court.

The General Council of Courts submits proposals to the Parliament and President on the establishment of courts, their personnel quota and salaries, appointment and release of justices and judges. In addition, it selects and examines justices and judges, upgrades their skills and qualifications, organizes re-trainings, distributes budget and controls over expenditure of funds, and is engaged in other matters provided for in the Law.
